Flex expertise

Rich Internet Applications (RIA) or Rich Enterprise Applications (REA) represent a significant progress as they deliver a unique user experience, which combines excellent ergonomics, better interaction, more functionality and easier maintenance.

As Silver Adobe EMEA partner, SmartWave has decided to implement the Flex technology for Web 2.0 user interfaces.

With its Java competencies, SmartWave supports companies and organizations in their effort to adopt RA technologies RIA, with the objective to speed up the implementation (RAD) of very ergonomics Web applications Web applications.
SmartWave engineers are familiar with Open Source, and they master software industrial design and project management using iterative approaches (XP, Scrum). The application is developed in full compliancy with constraints and objectives, to maximize user satisfaction.

Passion for software development and quality of service are our key drivers . As technology partner, SmartWave can support efficiently and durably its clients for the design, development and deployment of their Web applications.

Flex in short

Adobe Flex 3 is a multi-platforms Open Source framework designed by Macromedia in 2004, and transmitted to Adobe with the acquisition in 2005. Flex support the creation of Rich Internet Applications (RIA) which are compiled into executable code that can be run with the Flash payer (.swf), an application present on 98% of Web browsers, with the same look and feel on most browsers and for most operating systems.

The programming model of Flex uses MXML (based on XML) et ActionScript 3.0, based on ECMAScript. In April 2007, Adobe has licensed Flex on MPL open source license.
Flex is designed to create rich client applications (RIA) that are deployed on Internet and communicate with remote servers.
Using AIR, the runtime environment, developers can use Flex technology to create rich Internet applications that can be deployed locally on the desktop. AIR applications are installed using one installation program and they run on various environments and operating systems. Using Flex and AIR, developers can use their skills, tools and existing code to design very attractive and sophisticated applications that combine the best of two worlds : local processing and Web reach.

For more information concerning these technologies, you can have a look at the Flex / AIR - RIA seminar slides (in French language) used by SmartWave during the Flex / AIR - RIA seminar on June 24th, 2008 in Geneva.

SmartWave Flex / AIR services

SmartWave is proposing the following services:

Flex and AIR training courses for enterprise architects and developers. Here is the Abstract of a 5 days training course (in French language) that was given by SmartWave to a local company.

Technical support of Enterprise projects. SmartWave’s coaching approach is very pragmatic and adapted to the context of the project. As these technologies are quite recent, SmartWave recommends to train the project group before delivering support and coaching activities. The SmartWave consultant makes an assessment of project functional and technical requirements and constraints. He/she then validates with the client the scope and format of coaching and support services. Mission requirements and deliverables are documented in a support and coaching convention. Activities and deliverables are reviewed on a regular basis and are adjusted based on project's evolution.

Flex and AIR development activities. Depending of client’s resources, planning and level of effort to be produced, SmartWave can propose development services for these technologies.
